The Mediterranean Cold War by Silas-Coldwine The Mediterranean Cold War by Silas-Coldwine
A challenge in the AH forum (depicting a region where two opposing powers share a border) inspired this. It's essentialy a United Arab Republic wank with a POD in 1961's Syria. It can count as a redux of the 1000 battlefronts map, but it's a simplified scenario that prescinds of many of its ideas, such as the USA-Europe split and the rise of Baathism. It qualifies as an Eurowank as well, as the growing menace of the UAR greatly accelerated and thrusted Europe's integration.

The UAR's claims over Ceuta, Melilla and Israel/Palestine make those two powers, the United Arab Republic and the European Federation, irreconcilable enemies, two facing worlds around the Mediterranean.

Stage two of the Cold War is the best way to describe.

Turkey, in some years will be splitted, Istanbul will become Konstantinopolis again, and invaders will return to Mongolia where they came from

Sucks for Turkey, between the two and not supported by either.

Most alternate histories have a single point in their past where those worlds diverged from our own. What was that point for this timeline?

The 1961 Syrian coup that detached Syria from the UAR was averted.

interesting to see Britian and Cyprus both in pink, and for Britain to leave the European Federation the same year Albania, Bulgaria and Romania enters. It is true us Brits are uncomfortable with the expansion of the EU, and the lower paid workers coming into UK, when we have not got the back up to support this population growth

And also to keep the UK in the EF. British euroskepticism is a bit cliched.

Yes indeed it is. I just and be delicate about the matter to state my thoughts without aiming for text conflict
