It's mine (what else?), but nonetheless, I really can't see how Venezuela is not democratic. First, though the ruling party has manifestly authoritarian and paternalistic elements (especially regarding press) it keeps the essential element of a democracy: fair elections in a multiparty framework. Second,not even the most politically loaded organizations, such as Freedom House, consider Venezuela not to be an electoral democracy. If Venezuela is not a democracy, then neither is Turkey, for example. On the other hand, if by democracy we mean "the rule of the people", then no democracy has ever existed and, I dare to say, never will.
