Description
A quick photomanipulation based on a short, ASBish Spanish AH story by Eduardo Vaquerizo, called "Luz Inhumana". Spoilers ahoy:
The divergence involves what could almost be considered a Deus Ex Machina: the birth of Jaime Redondo, a bright Spanish physicist who never existed in our timeline. He developed a much earlier theory of fission reaction in the 1920's, pushing forward the history of nuclear research while having regular correspondence with Albert Einstein, who warned him of the possible consequences of his work. The Spanish Civil War came and Redondo sided with the Republic, that assigned him the creation of a fission weapon.
The Spanish Republic proceeded to win the war by nuking Burgos [1].
[1]I can't remember if it was actually Burgos. Consider it a homage.
